The California Gold Rush started on January 14, 1848 when James Wilson Marshall found some shiny pebbles that proved to be gold in the American River. Thousand of people from all over the world came to California to make it rich. Not all were in search of gold though, many came as entrepreneurs to try and sell to the miners that were here to mine for gold. Entrepreneurs are people who start a business hoping to make money. After the gold rush ended, very few people got rich.
