
San Jose is the fourteenth mission in California. It was founded July 11, 1717 by Father Fermin Lasuen. It is named for Saint Joseph. It is in the town of San Jose Mission, 15 miles northeast of the city of San Jose on State Highway 21.
Santa Cruz is the twelfth mission. It was founded in August 28, 1791 by Father Fermin Lasuen. It is named for the Sacred Cross. The location is on Mission Hill overlooking the city of Santa Cruz on the north shore of Monterey Bay.
Santa Barbara is the tenth mission. It was founded December 4, 1786 by Father Fermin Lasuen. It was named for Saint Barbara. The location is on a hill at the end of Laguna Street, overlooking the city of Santa Barbara.
Santa Ines is the nineteenth mission. It was founded September 17,1804 by Father Estevan Tapis. The location is in the town of Solvang east of the U.S. Highway 101.
San Francisco Solano is the twenty-first mission. It was founded July 4, 1823 by Father Jose Altimira. It was named for St. Francis Solano. St. Francis was missionary to the Peruvian Indians. The location of the mission is in the town of Sonoma, 20 miles north of San Francisco on State Highway 12.
